Our Fall Concert recognizes the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of America's and the world's greatest musicians, Leonard Bernstein. You’ll hear three wonderful compositions from his pen: The Best of All Worlds and Glitter and be Gay, from Candide; Slava!, which he wrote for his friend, Mstislav Rostropovich; and Divertimento, which he wrote in recognition of the Centenary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. A delightful multi-movement work, it shows us the whimsical Bernstein at his best. But Bernstein is by no means all you’ll hear. We will bring you one of the most important compositions for band in the 20th century, Paul Hindemith's Symphony in Bb. In the first of three solo performances by MetWinds members this season, Andy Wilds will perform Bernhard Heiden's beautiful and exciting Diversion for Alto Saxophone and Band. The concert will close with Eric Whitacre's spectacular Equus.
